Not enough time.
The themes don't interest me.
There are no prizes being given, therefore there's no incentive to take part.
I don't have enough confidence in my writing.

For me, not having enough time is the primary reason. My offline life has become far busier than I want it to. Becoming a group administrator (eight groups, now) changed the focus of my dA time - but somebody has to do it, right?
I also believe that there are simply too many contests, prompts, raffles, and such. I see a dozen prompts a week, minimum. Many are of a short duration, and are run too regularly to keep up with. There are only so many Points, llamas and such to go around.
It's understandable that every group wants Members and activity and attention, but so many groups are similar to others. I believe many smaller, struggling Lit groups should consider merging, with all admins teaming up in the combined group. Other groups should specialize, and stick with the script. Be a teaching group, or a critique group, or a bilingual group - anything to stand out from the crowd.
Freshness and unique activities are sorely needed in the Literature community!
