As an avid fan of apocalypse themed film, television and literature (and admin of Apocalypse-writing) it may come as no surprise that I am frequently looking for art on this particular subject. I can spend hours scrolling through photographs, paintings, drawings and sketches of present and post-apocalyptic worlds, characters, cosplay, jewellery…*sigh* you name it, visual art has it. Just a few choice words in the search bar and I can devour (zombie pun totally intended) all the apocalypse themed art I want.

So long as it’s visual.

When it comes to literature on the other hand (which we all know is where my heart truly lies)…not quite so lucky. It’s fine if you are apocalit savvy and know just the right words or phrases to use to get to the lit you want. But if you’re not really in the know, then one can spend copious amounts of time searching only to find maybe two or three pieces that fit what you’re looking for (out of the fifty you had to rifle through just to get to them). And even then there are no guarantees.

Now don’t get me wrong. This is not a rant about how difficult it is to find an underrated genre in an already underrated and under-promoted art form. (Although, those are valid points. And yes, I said it! Out loud even! Literature is under-promoted here on dA. But that’s a point for another day.)

No, this is a rant about the importance of proper promotion. Chiefly, the use of hashtags (or one specific hashtag in particular) to make sure people can find your work.

And this is where I get to the point, dear and present reader.

Look at those hashtags. Two very succinct words - Apocalypse and Literature – made all the better through compaction and compression. Two words, minimalised and joined together, to make one efficient, relevant, easy-to-search-for, beautiful hashtag.

Apocalypse literature. For those of you who write it (prose or poetry), take note! Do those of us who like to read it a favour and use the above hashtags when posting your work.

And for the rest of you, regardless of whether you read #apocalit or not, help a fellow lit fan/reader out and help spread the word.

I didn't know this was a thing, but I'll definitely tag my post-apocolypictic writing this way in the future. =D This might be up your alley: illuminara.deviantart.com/art/…
